Laying the Foundation
By the time Rick had reached third grade, he was shoveling sidewalks near his Western Canada home to make extra money. And on the day he turned 15, his dad encouraged him to get a job so he would be able to buy a car when eligible to drive a year later. Rick took his dad’s advice and started a part-time job, washing dishes after school at a local restaurant, as he counted the days until his 16th birthday. When that day finally came, Rick’s dad rewarded him for a job well done with his grandmother’s used ’52 Dodge. Looking back, that car was just one of the valuable rewards his father gave him during those formative years.
“My Dad really instilled in me a sense of responsibility and the values of hard work, discipline and having the desire to succeed,” Rick says. “Those things provided a strong foundation on which to build my success.”
Building Blocks of Success
Rick has never stopped working since those days. Even as he went on to earn his MBA with a major in Marketing, he continued working full- or part-time jobs. Rick was laying the groundwork for success in and out of the office, with a “nose to the grindstone” mentality that would allow him to achieve anything on which he focused. It’s this committed dependability and drive that has made Rick so successful in his career as an award-winning real estate professional. In fact, he recently earned the Lifetime Award of Excellence for achieving the Award of Excellence distinction seven years in a row.
